Well MMA fans it looks like something is moving in the cogs of the UFC as ‘Cyborg’ Justino (15-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) has been granted her request to fight on the UFC 198 card in Curitiba Brazil! The Invicta featherweight champion will get to make her UFC debut against Leslie Smith (8-6-1 MMA, 2-2 UFC) infront of her fellow countrymen. The pair will be fighting a 140lb catch weight bout which isn’t a title fight, but a big one nonetheless. She made this statement earlier when the UFC announced the card location :
“This May the UFC will be promoting an event in my hometown of Curitiba Brazil, a city very rich in fight history,” Justino wrote on her website.” It would be an honor to return back to the city I was born in, and to step inside of the Octagon with an opportunity to prove myself as one of the best female fighters in the sport.
“I know that the UFC does not have my division, which is why I am asking my fans to help make this fight!”
This could signify that the UFC is not closed to getting ‘Cyborg’ in there every now and then and that this could possibly be a hint that the UFC can and will feature her there on other occasions, giving her a bigger audience to display her skills and drum up more attention for the UFC women’s division even though her weight class isn’t in the UFC ranks.
Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino is on a 15 fight win streak and hasn’t lost since 2005 and will be looking to make a statement to give her more star power among the UFC ranks as she takes on Leslie Smith who recently fought and won against Rin Nakai at UFC : Brisbane.
So what do you MMA fans think about the UFC showing a bit more variety in their picks and do you think ‘Cyborg’ will be an amazing addition to the card?
