Michael Bisping

So we’ve all heard of a guy named Michael Bisping right? British UFC fighter, recently crowned UFC middleweight champion, loud mouthed dream crusher? Yeah that Michael Bisping. The same Michael Bisping many MMA fans from all over have been doubting for a really long time that could become the UFC middleweight champion after trying for nearly 10 years. Well he did it and to date seems to be having more than a great time rubbing it in everyone’s face and deservedly so.

Luke Rockhold had look seemingly unstoppable on his way to the UFC middleweight belt especially in his heavy handed win over the also seemingly unbeatable Chris Weidman. Rockhold had finished Bisping in their previous fight by a one handed guillotine which made the ‘Count’s victory that more pleasurable as he knocked out Rockhold in the first round of their fight, which dispelled two suspicions.

The first suspicion being that Michael Bisping has pillow fists. Yes pillow fists. As Bisping has TKO victories on his UFC record but almost in each fight relying on volumes and volumes of punches before finally getting the TKO over his opponent. Remember Cung Le? But this time was different as Michael Bisping in what was supposed to be his toughest fight to date actually scored a KO victory over one of the most technical and strongest fighters in his division which hardly any pundit or odds gave him any chance against. Talk about icing on the cake ontop of winning a championship belt right?

The second suspicion being that Michael Bisping never had what it takes to be a UFC champion? Even with a somewhat ‘controversial’ win over Anderson Silva. Michael Bisping has always lost the big fights that were supposed to lead him to the title fights he always wanted even being backed by the UFC itself. Four of them to fighters who unfortunately enough were on TRT in Wanderlei Silva, Dan Henderson, Chael Sonnen, and Vitor Belfort and once to a non TRT fueled fighter in Rashad Evans. Bisping other than those loses has had championship quality fights along with displaying the skills to do so and finally proving with his karmic win over Rockhold.

Now on the horizon for the ‘Count’ is a handful of monsters in his division that feel like they need to take advantage of a situation where they have the easiest champion to beat and realize their championship title dreams or the re-realization for some like Rockhold and Weidman and even someone like GSP who Bisping has stated reached out to him through his camp :

“I actually had some people reach out to me and say ‘Georges St-Pierre is interested in fighting you’,” Bisping said on Fox Sport’s Jay and Dan. “Yes, some people from his camp. I was like ‘Really, wow. Okay.'”

“Tell him to sign the dotted line, just like (what I said about Dan) Henderson, if he really wants to come out of retirement.”

UFC GSP

With GSP now supposedly being added into the mix the MW division might have more than eneough star power and spotlight on them with a Champion who isn’t afraid to mix things up and draw attention to his status and division with it. Or does any of it really matter as we’re all enjoying the chaos of a UFC division and being reminded why we love this sport ‘Because in a fight, anything can happen.”
