Fitness language is when your body is trying to tell you to slow down or halt all activity. It’s something that many athletes such as yourself tend to ignore. This could lead to a potential problem or lasting injury.

Do you feel pain and stress? I guess the better question is; is it really pain or is really stress? If you have no answer, you might want to learn fitness language.

The difference between the two is almost crucial to becoming a stronger and faster long distance runner.

When you initially feel that pain in the most common areas such as the knees and ankles, that’s your body Fitness Body Languagetelling you a storm might be coming your way soon. Pain is usually associated with stress but we want to stress our muscles more so than our joints. To avoid unnecessary changes in your forecast, either take a break from your training or reduce the intensity.

Giving yourself a break from intense cardio training can let you focus more on your cross training exercises. Changing your routine is bound to have stronger comebacks for higher intensity runs at a longer distance. It can also help prevent those injuries from happening or worsening.

Calisthenics are always recommended in between your run sessions. Typically when you run, you utilize the same muscles consistently. It may change varying on the temperature, altitude or even time. Although you may be getting faster, you are essentially using the same muscles possibly weakening them. Developing stability muscles will strengthen your running muscles which can mitigate risk of injury.

When I’m taking a break from running, I like to incorporate side-lunges, jumping jacks and burpees into my workout routine. They are great for keeping the heart rate up consistently and an awesome way to develop your IT Band that a lot of runners tend to neglect.
