Does milk still do a body good?

Spread the word

When I was a young boy, society said if you drink milk you will grow tall like Michael Jordan and have strong bones like Wolverine. So I did what the commercials advertised and “Got Milk”.

Milk played a huge role in my upbringing. What was milk without cereal and how do you have breakfast in elementary school without it. As I got older, I realized I didn’t grow as tall as Michael Jordan and I broke my arm in wrestling even though my blood type was calcium.

I’m not here to bash milk by any means. Milk from cows provide all 9 of the essential amino acids which can lead to fast recovery when consumed. Chocolate milk was my go-to post workout formula for strenuous strength training leading to faster gains. As time progressed, my body started rejecting animal milk leading to stomach cramps, unwanted acne and a lot of books being read in the lavatory.

Fortunately, there are alternatives you can consider that can provide essential amino acids without the use of an animal and avoiding unwanted side-effects. Try these 3 oddly delicious alternative milks to supplement your dairy intake.

Nut Milk

Almond and Cashew milk are the top two I purchase. They are not the best considering you have to ensure vitamin D and calcium are added to the mixture. Although low in calories, it can definitely increase since the sweetened versions taste better.

Hemp Milk

Don’t expect major gains in terms of protein from this product. Adding protein to your shakes or smoothies may pick up the slack. As an added bonus, this milk packs omega-3 hemp oil.

Coconut Milk

This milk is high in saturated fats. This is not a bad thing according to The American Heart Association. We should get 13 grams as a daily intake and coconut milk alone has about 10 grams. Not bad at all, but it really doesn’t taste good without the added sugar.

These are my go-to alternatives but there are a ton of milk alternatives that I haven’t tried yet such as Pea Milk (lol), Oat and Soy. Apparently, everything has titties now-a-days. Milk still do a body good but comes in different sources now. What milk do you recommend that hasn’t made my list? Comment below.
