Anderson Silva off UFC 198

Written by A.G Lee

Well it looks like that high speed karate battle most MMA fans were expecting between Anderson Silva and the person who was expected to be the next Anderson Silva (yes Uriah Hall) has been cancelled. The MMA legend and still considered by some as the GOAT has been removed from the UFC 198 card due to illness.

The MMA superstar has been experiencing abdominal pains and might need surgery to remove his gall bladder. The former champion with 10 straight title defenses at middleweight and 16 straight wins which are both UFC records have taken a little bit of a tumble lately upon his return from his two losses in a row to Chris Weidman. With 3 losses and 1 no contest, the former UFC champion has been looking a bit less like his former self especially after a suspension from being busted for steroids.

“Anderson developed abdominal discomfort [Monday and] further evaluation today is consistent with acute cholecystitis,” UFC medical consultant Dr. Jeff Davidson told Yahoo!. “He will be seen by a surgeon today for possible surgery.”

Cholecystitis is the inflammation of the gall bladder, typically caused by the presence and movement of gallstones. Most doctors recommend removing the gall bladder altogether in a laparoscopic (and non-invasive) procedure if there are gallstones present. If the gallstones have migrated into Silva’s bile ducts, though, further procedures could be needed. “The Spider” would probably be out of training for at least a few weeks if he required surgery, perhaps more.

Uriah Hall is left without a fight so far, but seeing as UFC 198 is right around the corner and still time to find him a fight. Do MMA fans think the UFC will be able to find him a replacement in time and do MMA fans think this is the beginning of the end for the ‘Spider’?
