Why Do We Halloween?

Spread the word

31 October is the only day of the year where I can walk outside as a Wonder Woman and no one bats an eye. Not only that, random people give you sweet treats and chocolate for participating on this special day.

It’s clearly the best day of the year but why? Out of all the names this day could be called, why Halloween, why the 31st, why even celebrate it?

The name Halloween is derived from the meaning, Holy evening. Halloween is said to have originated its traditional spirit from Celtic harvest festivals of Samhain. Samhain, if you didn’t know, is the end of the summer harvest, better known as summer’s end.

31 October is the day before All Saints Day. If you’re not familiar with Christian festivals, it’s the day to recognizes Saints. For a minute people thought the spirits would come through our world and wreck shop on all the crops for the next season.

To give them a place in our world, participators would set up a spot for them at the round table for the good spirit chow down. For the evil spirits, bonfires where lit up to push them away.
